Donna Goldstein
Malibu Seascape in Oil
Volunteer Position: Membership
Donna Jean Goldstein, a native of southern California, has always been inspired by nature and the outdoors. Her oil paintings portray a realistic impression of the world around her. As a naturalist with the National Parks, she led interpretive hikes in the Santa Monica Mountains, and developed a knowledgeable appreciation of our local landscape. Her paintings capture moments in time when all nature’s elements are harmonious. As a docent with the Japanese Gardens in Van Nuys, California, she was inspired by the Zen concepts taught by Dr. Kowichi Kawana, striving to portray the essence of nature with an avoidance of the artificial and a preference for the imperfect form. These ideas were further realized after living a year in Japan.
After mentoring with various art instructors in Southern California she continued with her studies through the Design Program at UCLA. There she reinforced her artistic calling, and turned to painting in oils as her major means of expression.
An active member of the Allied Artists of the Santa Monica Mountains, she contributes a percentage of sales to the protection of the natural environment. Her work, collected internationally, is found in the private collections of those seeking to enhance their environment with nature’s intrinsic beauty.
