ARTIST STATEMENT
Helen Groenekamp Helen Groenekamp has a strong relationship to her natural and man-made environment. She portrays its visual potentialities, its beauty, and its mysteriousness of light. Her training started at the American Academy of Art in Chicago. After moving West, she continued her studies at Art Students’ League in Los Angeles and took various courses at UCLA and USC. She studied with noted artists in various individual workshops. She was a full time art teacher in a private school for 16-years. During this time her works began selling in outdoor Art Festivals and began winning numerous awards in juried shows. In 2001, she was selected as one of the Top 200 representational artists in the “Arts for the Parks” national competition in Jackson Hole, WY. Helen was invited to show eight of her watercolors in The President’s Gallery of the California Heritage Museum, Santa Monica, CA, from 11/23/2004 to 1/9/2005. Helen has been a member of Allied Artists since its’ inception. “There is nothing that gives your painting more inspiration then to paint on location”, she tells her students. Besides her many watercolors, she works in oil and pastel. You may view more of her work at www.groenekamp.com or contact her at helart@groenekamp.com or call 310-838-2087.
